While J's Fish & Chips has earned high marks for its food, some diners found the wait times during peak hours, particularly on Fridays, to be longer than expected. Yet, the owner actively manages the pace to ensure a smooth flow, making the wait more tolerable. Also, some visitors have mentioned a desire for more variety in the beverage offerings beyond soft drinks, highlighting this as a minor drawback. For a few, the old-school decor feels dated, but many resonate with its nostalgic charm.
A handful of customers have noted that the seating could feel cramped during busy times, particularly during the dinner rush. However, the atmosphere is still friendly and lively, creating a lively dining experience despite these minor inconveniences.
The halibut fish and chips were amazing. Went here after reading reviews and the food was even more better. Crispy batter and soft and tasty fish inside. You can taste that it is fried in fresh oil and not old one. Chips were great too but I enjoyed the fish more. J is a really good owner and host of the joint. Shows he cares about his customers and what he serves.
And old school looking institution but amazing flaky crispy fish. I was recommended by an employee where I work to come here. Portions were actually a good decent size and from what I was told, you can buy just the pieces of fish and then add fries on its own, but will have to try that out next time. I just really wanted a good spot to have some lunch. This definitely hit the spot. The fish tasted awesome and when you add the malt vinegar and some lemon to it, flavour and deliciousness is elevated. One thing I don’t do at fish and chips spots is ketchup. I just don’t think it’s needed and you just get that fried taste that much more Service was great. I believe it was the owner who pointed out the daily special which is what everyone gets. Got my food fairly quickly and when I went on a Wednesday lunch time, it wasn’t busy, but it was steady enough. Parking is very easy. A super large plaza and plenty of parking spots available for this section of the plaza. Great job overall
We dined in and the food was so good That we took food to go for family at home. The fish was cooked to perfection. Fries and onion rings were good. Prices were more than fair in today’s world and we will be back again. This is from a family of extremely picky eaters and it’s taken 20 years to find another fish and chip spot, since Old Galley in Richmond hill closed. The owner was friendly and courteous as well.
Delicious fish and chips ($13 at the moment) and chicken and chips ($15). Very cheap in comparison to others in town. They had generous portion sizes. 6 large chicken strips vs 4 small at the restaurant down the road. Very clean restaurant. I expected it to be bad, but it was actually very clean including the bathroom. Older restaurant, but he knows his stuff and maintains the place well. We will be back in the future as this just became our go to place.
Came for dinner with a friend on Thursday around 6pm. When we entered the place wasn't busy but it honestly got busy pretty quick, and every single person knew the owners by name "Jay". Absolutely amazing guy, great food, great service, always smiling and cleaning. Got the halibut & chips special, I also got some onion rings, amazing. Really good fish & chips. nice and tender fish but crispy coating. Will 100% be back.
This was a simple, independent fish and chips place. I had never seen it before and thought to give it a try. Super friendly, nice, very clean and well priced for the portions and taste. The plaza is easy to get in and out of and has a lot of other good shopping.
The quality and taste of the food were fantastic and amazing. It was not greasy and was perfectly cooked. Jay is very friendly and has extensive knowledge from his many years in the business. A great place for fish and chips!
